Just walking in the rain, raindrops keep falling on my head
About 40 persons attended to the 71st General Meeting of the AMOTA which was held in the rainy daytime of 11th June in 2000, at the OMYC (Olympic Memorial Youth Center) in Tokyo as usual.
The Orientation for Perseids 2000 was combined with this Meeting in which below subjects were visually presented.

- 1. Summary Reports of kappa Lyrids and eta Aquarids in 2000
- By Kanryu SERIZAWA
- Rather great activity compared with last year was observed for Lyrids in Japan. On the other hand, higher activity on 6th May rather than expected peak on 5th May was obtained for eta Aquarids.
- 2. The Meteors Painted by J.F.Millet
- By Yoshikazu WATANABE
- French painter, Jan F. Millet painted in 1860's " Stars in the sky" in which 2 meteors flew. The trial to identify the stars in this painting was presented.
- 3. Introduction from S and T - Surprising Lunar Meteors
- By Yoshikazu WATANABE
- After the introduction of the above translated into Japanese, the probability of the existence for the large meteoroid as like as grapefruit mentioned in the article was discussed.
- 4. The Orientation of the Observations for Perseids.
- 4-1. What's Perseids.
- By Hiroshi OGAWA
- 4-2. Visual Observation
- By Hiroshi OGAWA
- 4-3. Photo Observation
- By Noritomo Fuino
- 4-4. Radio Observation
- By Hiroshi OGAWA
- 4-5. Check Points for more Useful Observation
- By Momiji AKIYAMA
- 4-6. Viewing Colorful Images of Perseids Recorded to TV in 1999
- By Momiji AKIYAMA
- 5. Meteor Orientation Promoted by AMOTA this 20 Years
- By Yoshikazu WATANABE
- The history of the Orientation was presented. The 1st Orientation was held in 1981. After 1996, the Orientations for Leonids were held with planetarium facilities.
- 6. Meteor Camera System chopped by the LCD Shutter
- By Shigeru YAEDA
- Meteor camera system with LCD (liquid crystal device) shutter instead of the rotating shutter made by the author was shown. The code system for appearance time to the chopping intervals was also installed in this system. The response speed of the LSD shutter was practically higher in comparison with the first trial in Japan more than 10 years ago.
- 7. The Simple History of Calculator in the Astronomy
- By Yoshiaki FUJIYOSHI
- From the knot to the PC through the abacus in accordance with the astronomy, the history of calculator was presented. Especially, the slide rules used in the Apollo 13 project was deeply interested.
- 8. P/Pons-Winnecke Related Meteor Shower
- By Hiroyuki OKAYASU
- The sudden activity of the above shower was observed in 1998. In 1921 the astronomer Kaname NAKAMURA of the Kyoto University was once observed faint shower. Dr. Issei YAMAMOTO obtained the related meteor's photo as the first meteor photo in Japan in 1927. These stories were merrily shown.
- 9. The activity of the May Alpha Bootids in 2000.
- By Takema HASHIMOTO
- The enhanced activity of the May Alpha Bootids was observed during May 23 to 29, 2000 in Japan. The maximum activity occurred on May 24 with HR = 3, and the radiant is alpha = 212, delta = +17. The same shower appeared in 1970, 1998. As the radiant of this shower is near the predicted radiant of comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, it is possibly associated with comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3.
- 10. The Guidance for Perseids 2000
- By Yoshinori KAWAI
- The condition in this year was presented.
